They asked me if I could squeeze a 45 minute Keynote into 10 minutes

I said, "Hold on tight and lets go for a ride!"

North High School in Davenport  “Student Success Recognition Ceremony”  for 2016-17. All students received their 21st Century Scholar Certificates provided by Gear Up Iowa, as well as special certificates for academic achievement. The highlight of the program featured our distinguished guest speaker, Harvie Herrington. Harvie spoke about four different personality traits. He emphasized that every student is one of the four listed traits and every trait is unique and special. Harvie encouraged every student to use their strength in a positive way, take advantage of the Gear Up Iowa programs being offered at the school and to never give up or give in. Harvie also motivated all students to reflect on their accomplishments and to push themselves to discover the power of their dreams and how a positive mental attitude can help them on their journey from high school through their post-secondary success.

Casey Sticther,

Riverdale Middle School Port Byron

Sometimes in life we plant seeds, but often do not get to enjoy how they grow and mature into harvest.

I think about that often here at school or when with my youth group at church. It seems like we do our best to teach kids and instill in them life's lessons, but often we do not get the joy of seeing it come to reality.  I am sure that can be true of your job as a speaker. However, I want you to know that what you said to our student body on Friday has made a difference.  Kids are still referencing your speech today in our hallways (which, as you know, for teen-agers to have that kind of connection and recollection is amazing). They approached me today with about 5 different projects and ideas to do here at the middle school to continue your message.  Other teachers and coaches in the district heard kids referencing your time with us as well.

"Harvie Herrington spoke to our Middle School of 6th-8th graders.  His excitement for challenging kids was evident as he taught them about the importance of having a dream, respecting others, standing up for themselves, understanding leadership qualities, and not being afraid to fail.  Teens are a difficult group to connect with, but Harvie did an amazing job of balancing personal stories with true life lessons.  The students in our building are still referencing the speaker's challenges in our hallways today.  Harvie had a moving message for everyone in the auditorium from teachers to students.  His desire to succeed in life and be a leader is contagious,  I am so glad our school was fortunate enough to experience his passion!"

Principal Of  Worth Middle School
Joseph Zampillo,

Your message to young people encouraging them to pursue their dreams and to never let failure and obstacles in life derail their pursuits of those dreams really hits home.  Not only is your presentation relevant for students, but also to the adults in their lives entrusted with the important job of supporting their learning and growth!

Thanks again for the great presentation today!  It was great meeting you and I hope to continue the professional connection we have started.  Good luck in your dream of answering the call to share your story with young people.  I will definitely let people know about you and hope to see you grow in your craft in the years to come!

Dr. Kay Dugan, Assistant Superintendent - Bensenville Ill School District
Harvie related extremely well his own experiences as to how teachers made a difference in his life...always appreciated by teachers. He also shared the importance for reaching out to all students and to recognize that students' behaviors may stem from external events that they bring to school.
